Kearney commemorates fallen soldier






Bishop Kearney High School honored one of its own who died in the Iraq War.

Spc. Teodoro "Tito" Torres Jr., a 1995 graduate of the school in Irondequoit, and two other soldiers were killed May 5, 2006, when a roadside bomb exploded beside their Humvee. The Army Reservist, assigned to the 409th Civil Affairs Battalion in Abilene, Texas, was serving his first tour of duty near Baghdad at the time of his death. He was 29.

His family, students, staff and local officials attended a ceremony to remember his life and to dedicate a commemorative brick in his name in the Bishop Kearney Honor Walk.

The ceremony begin at 11 a.m. on the main entrance walkway, near the flagpole at 125 S. Kings Highway. Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks and New York Assemblyman Joseph Morelle were among those who attended.
