Through an innovative community business partnership that Bishop Kearney formed with Family First Federal Credit Union last year, we will once again collaborate to provide students with financial and professional learning opportunities.
Family First FCU will be opening the doors to the Bishop Kearney in-school Student Branch again on September 22 in the new location next to the main office. Branch hours will be Mondays 10:45am – 1:15pm and Thursdays 2:00pm – 3:15pm. Again this year, students will be hired and trained to participate in branch operations, providing them with a unique professional learning opportunity.
Together Bishop Kearney and Family First FCU will be integrating the High School Financial Planning Program from the National Endowment for Financial Education into the classrooms. This program has been designed and tested to bring "real-world" financial education to our students and help them prepare for the next stages in their lives.
Family First FCU would also like to be a resource for you. If you have a topic that you are discussing in class relating to financial literacy and would like support through materials or information, please consider Family First as a source to turn to. If you are interested, please contact Jennifer Habecker, Membership Development Officer at 585-586-8225 ext. 202 or jennifer.habecker@familyfirstny.com.
Also keep Family First FCU in mind for your own financial needs. We understand that you may not want to do all of your banking at the student branch due to privacy issues between you and your students but you could consider opening just a Holiday Savings Account or even a Summer Savings Account there. By opening a small account you will be supporting the Bishop Kearney / Family First community business partnership and providing your students with additional learning opportunities.
