BKHS's National Honor Society sponsored its annual Fall Blood Drive on October 27, 2008. Determined to beat our goal of 35 blood donations, NHS members actively recruited eligible students for the week prior. Students were very motivated to donate when they learned that each individual donation could help up to three patients.
On the day of the blood drive, forty-nine donors were scheduled, and with walk-ins from faculty & staff, fifty-three blood donations were accepted. First-time donors counted for thirty-four of these donations. According to information from the Red Cross, this blood drive helped 159 patients.
Members of the National Honor Society encourage everyone to donate blood, to give the gift of life, especially during the coming months, to help prevent blood shortages. Please take to heart the Red Cross's words:
"The need is constant. The gratification instant. Give Blood."
