I am pleased to announce that our talented media production students from BK's Mendick Media Arts Center have won first place in the "Extraordinary Stories in Our Schools Contest" sponsored by St. Bonaventure University in conjunction with 13 WHAM TV.
Congratulations to Sheldon Jones-Mitchell, Emily Hanney and Emily Pietrocarlo who produced a top-notch news feature about BK Science teacher Rob Burke called "Mr. Burke's Wonders of Science." Their video is a fine example of the great work our students are doing here at Kearney.
With the competition open to every school in Monroe County and out of 14 total entries, our submission was in the top three of a popular vote (thanks in great part to your votes!) and was judged number one overall by a selection committee of media and communications professionals.
As the grand prize winner, BishopKearney will receive a $2,500 cash prize for the school, a $1,500 St. Bonaventure Scholarship for each team member as well as a Flip Mino HD camera for each team member. 13 WHAM TV is also planning on coming to Kearney to film a news story about our students' winning entry. That will be aired in the near future on 13 WHAM TV's 5 o'clock news. Be watching for it!
On behalf of our hard-working students and everyone at Bishop Kearney, THANK YOU for your votes and support of our students' work. We couldn't have done it without you!
We are so proud of these students as they are a clear example of Kearney's motto: "Do All Things Well."
Thank you again and Merry Christmas.
