Quentin Gause, a standout linebacker and running back on Bishop Kearney's varsity football team, has been nominated to play in the 2011 U.S. Army All-American Bowl Game, which honors the top 400 senior high school football players in the country.
The annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl has been the nation's premier high school football game for 10 years, serving as a launching pad for future college and NFL stars. Past players in the game include Tim Tebow, Adrian Peterson, Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Ndamukong Suh, Mark Sanchez and Jimmy Clausen.
Quentin Gause will officially receive his nomination during a ceremony on Monday, May 3, at 11 a.m. in the front entrance of Bishop Kearney High School.
A 6'-2"/215-pound outside linebacker, Gause recorded 114 tackles and six sacks this past season for the Kearney Kings. On offense, he rushed for 800 yards and scored 14 rushing and receiving touchdowns. Scout.com ranks him the 13th top outside linebacker in the country.
To date, Gause has received football scholarship offers from Akron, Duke, Louisville, Rutgers and Syracuse University, as well as interest from a host of other colleges, including Notre Dame, Penn State and the University of Miami. Gause, a cousin of Buffalo Bills wide receiver Roscoe Parrish, resides in Irondequoit.
"The U.S. Army All-American Bowl provides the national platform for young adults to reflect the strength of Army Strong Soldiers," said Col. Derik Crotts, director of marketing and outreach, U.S. Army Accessions Command. "This nomination recognizes the mental, emotional and physical strengths and leadership qualities Quentin Gause has developed on and off the field."
The 2011 U.S. Army All-American Bowl Game will take place on Jan. 8, 2011 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Of the 400 players nominated, 90 will be selected to play in the 2011 game. The final roster will be announced in the fall 2010.
