Library

The mission of the Bishop Kearney High School¦Golisano Library is to ensure that all students acquire the skills, knowledge, and attitudes to become responsible, contributing citizens in a changing global community with the belief that student learning is the goal. This library welcomes and supports all people in their enjoyment of reading and the pursuit of lifelong learning. Working together, we strive to provide equal access to information, ideas and knowledge through books and other resources. We believe in the freedom to read, to learn, to discover. We believe in being partners with other libraries, public, school, college and university, both public and private. We understand that the library is the caretaker of the wisdom of the universe and the protector of intellectual freedom.

The library creates a safe – even sacred – space, encouraging all to inwardly digest its contents. At the heart of this encounter is a spiritual path. It is impossible to encounter the world's literature without touching on spiritual issues. As we read literature, we read our own lives.

The library matters because it enhances the educational experience at every level, it gives Bishop Kearney ¦Golisano High School a competitive edge, and it seeds the faith formation of the students and faculty. The Bishop Kearney High School¦Golisano Library matters because it offers sanctuary and salvation, opportunities and enrichment, as well as solutions and delights.

Open from 7:15am to 3:15 PM, the Bishop Kearney High School¦Golisano Library offers students a quiet place to read, study, and do research throughout the school day.

The current library collection has around 20,000 volumes, of which between 300 to 400 are new each year.

"What a school thinks about its library is a measure of what it feels about education."
Harold Howe, former U.S. Commissioner of Education and Professor Emeritus Harvard Graduate School of Education
