This past November school officials announced a partnership with LEGACY Global Sports to offer the first-ever Selects Academy girls’ hockey program in the United States. The program will bring elite youth hockey players from around the world to live and learn at Bishop Kearney while competing in the country’s highest level of girls’ hockey.
To house students participating in the program, Bishop Kearney will be renovating the currently unused third-floor dormitory that previously housed teachers at the school. The dormitories are complete with kitchens, lounge areas and onsite RA space, all of which will be getting a modern upgrade for its new residents. Dormitory renovations are expected to completed by July, 2016.
“We’re excited to be the first school in the country to offer a Selects Academy program for girls,” Bishop Kearney CEO Thomas O’Neil said. “This unique program gives elite hockey players from around the world, exposure to the high-level academics we offer here at Bishop Kearney, all in a nurturing environment where they can pursue both their academic and athletic dreams.”
Selects Hockey, a division of LEGACY Global Sports, is an internationally acclaimed youth program that gives young athletes from across the globe the opportunity to compete against the best in their sport while also receiving high quality academics. LEGACY Global Sports will recruit players worldwide to participate in the program. Once students are selected and confirmed, Bishop Kearney will house and educate the students and manage implementation of the hockey program.
“The Selects Academy at Bishop Kearney will be the premier hockey academy in the world for girls,” said Selects Girls Hockey Director, Kathy Pippy. “We’re excited to have found such a high-level education partner for this new venture that will help open doors towards future success for youth athletes.”

BK MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER NAMED EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR

Congrats to Bishop Kearney English teacher Ms. Jessica Prinzing for being named the Monroe County Firemen’s 2015 EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR .  Seven of Ms. Prinzing’s middle school students last spring won awards on the Firemen Prevention Essay Contest and BK students have won 1st place the last 2 years. Ms. Prinzing is a Bishop Kearney graduate and this award is a testament to her dedication in the classroom and her ability to inspire the next generation of BK scholars.

Alan Way, from the Monroe County Volunteer Fireman’s Association says no other teacher can match that record. “It shows her dedication as a teacher, and shows her inspiration to the students that they are coming up with a good program.”

Jessica tells her students writing is everything. “If they want to be heard, they need to be able to make a statement and get all their ideas down and develop those ideas is the big thing we focus on.”

Ms. Prinzing is living a dream. She’s a Kearney grad who always wanted to return home. “And I came here for junior high and high school, and as soon as I was done with college I came back. It’s everything. It’s family.”

And now she’s part of the firefighter family too. “I’m floored. I don’t know what to say. It means so much. I mean I always send it right back to the kids. They’re the ones working so hard. It means a lot to be recognized though, it really does.”

Ms. Jessica Prinzing is a wonderful educator and is a living example of our school motto “DO ALL THINGS WELL”.

Kearney students are blessed to have you as their teacher.  CONGRATULATIONS MS. PRINZING ON A WELL DESERVED HONOR!
