BK junior’s play wins Young Writer’s award

Maggie with English teacher Mrs. Hoffman

Congratulations to Bishop Kearney junior Maggie Hurley!  Her short play “Anxiety” has been chosen for the Young Writer’s Showcase at Geva Theatre. This is a huge honor, and a great opportunity for Maggie to work with professional actors and move from page to stage. Her play will be rehearsed and performed during the Fall 2017 Festival of New Theatre.

Maggie is the third Bishop Kearney student this week to win an award for her writing. Middle school students Alyssa Schaeffer and Mary Tran won 1st and 2nd place in an essay contest against 7th and 8th graders from all over Western New York.  For the past four years, Bishop Kearney middle school students have won 1st place in the Western New York essay contest and several students have won multiple awards in the top ten. Congratulations to these students and congratulations to the English department at Bishop Kearney for developing such gifted writers each and every year.
