Bishop Kearney serves up a heaping helping of family fun in their spring musical, Seussical: The Musical, which is being performed at the BK Auditorium on Saturday, April 26 @ 7:00 pm & Sunday, April 27 @ 2:00 pm.
Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza written by Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (“Ragtime,” “Once On This Island”). The two have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters from a host of the author’s most popular books.
The opening number, Oh, The Thinks You Can Think, captures the show’s spirit of imagination, as colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.
The story, narrated in part by the whimsical Cat in the Hat (Olivia Pine), centers around Horton the Elephant (Ryan Farrell) who finds himself faced with a double challenge. Not only must he protect his tiny friend Jojo (Rachel Farrell) and all the invisible Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird (Anngelica Eshesimua.)
Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz (Mackenzie Reed) never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant in a story that makes you laugh and cry.
Also featured in the world of Whoville are the Mayor and his wife (alumni Bev Bauman & Marc Cataldi), butter-battling General Schmitz (Chris Jackson) and the Whos (Melissa Brock, Kenny Debot, Sophia Gelsomino, Julia McMahon, Spencer Cattalani, Shantasia Noble). Also featured as Whos will be students from St. Kateri School.
Citizens of the jungle include the Sour Kangaroo (Sterling Beatty), the mischievous Wickersham Brothers, (Kyle Johnson, Shyanne Lindsay, Andrew Tantalo, Sam Dauria), the Bird Girls (Jyl Russotti, Paige Steffen, Natalie Bila) and Yertle the Turtle (Spencer Cattalani).
