BK students selected for “Do The Right Thing Award”

April 29, 2016

Two Bishop Kearney students were  selected as “Do The Right Thing” recipients:

  • Marie Claire DeFord, 12th grade, Bishop Kearney High School: Highlighted for her extensive volunteerism: most notably her work with the children of migrant workers. Marie Claire DeFord will  attend Canisius College in the fall and intends to major in Education.
  • Diamond Moorehead, 12th grade, Bishop Kearney High School: Highlighted for her extensive volunteerism: most notably her work with at risk adolescences in teen court.  Diamond Moorehead  will  attend Siena College in the fall and intends to major in Political Science with a minor in Criminal Justice.

Students from various Monroe County schools were honored with Do The Right Thing awards at a ceremony at the Public Safety Building. The awards, which have been offered since 1995, are sponsored by the city of Rochester and the Rochester Police Department. They recognize students for good choices and are used to build a stronger bond between the community and law enforcement and first responders. One of the goals of the program is to recognize good deeds and role model behavior.

Bishop Kearney is extremely proud of these young ladies. They are wonderful ambassadors for Bishop Kearney and they live out the mission our school through their good deeds, volunteerism, and community service. Every year Bishop Kearney students perform thousands of community service hours throughout the Rochester area.

Shrek cast

In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre (Kyle Johnson) –not a handsome prince –shows up to rescue a feisty princess (Emily Perevich). Throw in a donkey (Shyanne Lindsay) who won’t shut up, a villain with a SHORT temper (Rachel Farrell), a cookie with an attitude (Mackenzie Reed), a talking wooden puppet (Emma Mittiga), a love struck dragon (Annie Heyen) and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand… and his name is Shrek!Shrek cast 3Shrek cast 2

Completing the cast are the ensemble and dancers including Bella Callari, Beth Mesganow, Chris Jackson, Jessica Opett, John William, Marianna Freeman, Myah Gonzalez, Nadia Wlodarski, Nyla Bradford, Rileigh Mull, Taylor Duhart, Tegan Young, Tiana Kinlock, Ziyuan Tang,  Zoe Ferraro, Lily Carroll, Julia McMahon, Maggie Martin, Lilianna Hanning, Christina Aldridge, Maria Palmeri.  Also on stage are students from St. Kateri School.  The pit band and chorus is comprised of over 30 Bishop Kearney alumni and supporters.Shrek cast 1
