BK Senior “Do the Right Thing Award” Winner

A local teen is being recognized for giving back to the community.

Annie Heyen is our latest “Do the Right Thing” award winner. She’s a senior at Bishop Kearney High School and  her vice principal nominated her for the award.

This summer, Heyen spent 40-plus hours volunteering at the Penfield Ecumenical Food Shelf. It’s a place she’s volunteered for the last four years. We asked her what keeps her going back to help.

“All the people that volunteer there are so nice and then all the people that come in are so willing to talk and share their stories,” she says. “And it just makes my day that I can help them.”

In addition to her volunteer work, Heyen is a captain on two sports teams, a member of the National Honor Society, sings in show choir, has leading roles in the fall play and spring musical….while she maintains a 98.4 average in the classroom.

Annie lives out the Bishop Kearney school motto “Do All Things Well”.

We say congratulations on this well deserved award!
