The mission of Bishop Kearney High School, A Golisano Education Partner, is to empower young men and women to reach their full potential spiritually, academically, and socially – by providing a college preparatory, values-based Catholic education in a student-centered family atmosphere, in keeping with the tradition of the Christian Brothers and the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

Our History

Founding of BK

Bishop Kearney High School was initially envisioned and founded by the fifth bishop of Rochester, NY, the Most Reverend James E. Kearney. The school opened in 1962 under the supervision of the Congregation of Christian Brothers.
Becoming a Co-Educational Institution

BK was structured as a co-institutional educational facility, with girls’ classes in the south wing and boys’ classes in the north wing. In the mid-1970s, many of the electives and advanced placement classes became integrated to facilitate scheduling and staffing needs, and in 1987, the school converted entirely to a co-educational institution.
Expanding Operations

In 2015, Bishop Kearney expanded its operations to include a boarding school option for elite girls hockey players worldwide. In 2019, the school expanded to include boys elite hockey students worldwide.

Mr. B. Thomas Golisano and BK

In 2007, Mr. Tom Golisano made a transformative investment in our school that significantly enhanced technology for both teachers and students. His generosity enabled us to provide each student with a laptop, establish a robust wireless network, and introduce digital projection systems, video conferencing tools, and interactive whiteboards. Additionally, Mr. Golisano's support led to curriculum enhancements, including introducing business studies programs.

His commitment to our school continued in 2013 with further investments in our building and grounds, resulting in a name change to Bishop Kearney / A Golisano Education Partner. Mr. Golisano's dedication to our Catholic values and his pursuit of excellence have had a profound and lasting impact on our community. Thanks to his unwavering support, we have enriched our programs, nurtured our students, and created an environment where they can thrive. We are deeply grateful for his continued contributions, which empower the next generation of leaders.

Mr. Golisano—an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and civic leader—founded Paychex, Inc., the nation's largest human resource company for small to medium-sized businesses. His philanthropic efforts extend to hospitals, including three children's hospitals that bear his name and numerous educational institutions, including Bishop Kearney High School.
