BK SELECTS HOCKEY PROGRAM TO ADOPT BISHOP KEARNEY’S LOGO, COLORS

ROCHESTER, N.Y.  Bishop Kearney High School is proud to announce that BK Selects will begin using the school’s redesigned logo, effective immediately.
“We’re excited to demonstrate unity within the school and the hockey program through a consistent logo and colors,” said Paul Colontino, President of Bishop Kearney High School.

The red that formerly featured in the BK Selects’ crest will switch to light blue, matching the hue long employed by Bishop Kearney High School. Additionally, the BK Selects’ shield will now mirror the fresh logo BKHS began using at the start of the 2024-25 academic year, punctuated by three fleur-de-lis as per the school’s tradition in Catholic education.

The switch to black and light blue allows Bishop Kearney High School and BK Selects to unify under a consistent brand. Unveiled last fall, the new Bishop Kearney logo harmoniously blends the tradition of the longstanding school colors and the pre-existing BK Selects shield, uniting all elements of the community.

“We are all one Bishop Kearney,” said Board of Trustees Chair Brendan Tydings. “BK Selects is Bishop Kearney, and Bishop Kearney is BK Selects. With the combination of the high achievement of BK Selects and the educational legacy of the school, we felt it was important to bring both of those together.”

The renowned BK Selects hockey program — boasting three USA Hockey national championships after the 19U girls’ triumph this spring — has always been owned and operated by Bishop Kearney High School. The black and red colorway was a remnant from an early association with the now-defunct management firm Legacy Global Sports.

Now, the unification of the logos represents collective identity and the promising future that comes from being one school and one family.

“This represents,” Colontino said, “that we are all BK.”

Players for BK Selects come from across North America and Europe to take part in the residential program at Bishop Kearney High School. The program consists of two girls teams (19U and 16U) and four boys teams (18U, 16U, 15O and 14U), with all hockey student-athletes living on the third floor of Bishop Kearney High School.

“There is a rigorous admissions procedure for the Selects program,” Colontino said. “Not only are these elite athletes, but exceptional students and people”.

Tydings added: “Anybody can start a hockey program, but when you combine that with the value-based education that Bishop Kearney has, that’s really what makes it different. This unification will hopefully help the community see the great things we’re doing.

“One of the things we pride ourselves in at Bishop Kearney is diversity, and the BK Selects program has expanded that even more for us, giving us international reach. Bringing good people, good students, good families together is something we strive to do, and BK Selects has helped us do that even more.”

While upholding Bishop Kearney’s rigorous academic standards and advancing student-athletes to elite universities, BK Selects boasts elite coaching personnel and player development investment.

In addition to the three USA Hockey titles and seven national runner-up finishes, the program’s six teams have routinely claimed New York state championships — piling up more than 20 in less than a decade.

“The Bishop Kearney slogan translated into English is ‘Do All Things Well,’ “ Tydings said. “We feel like BK Selects represents the best in the world in the hockey community. They’re held to a high standard in all things, not just hockey.”
